Danny McDonald
Hello everyone! I'm Danny McDonald, from Melbourne, Australia. I work for UZH's S3IT group, doing a mixture of software development, consultancy, and tech support.
I'm from a linguistics background, with a PhD that looked at how language evolves as people participate in an online support group for bipolar disorder. This got me really interested in programming, the digital humanities, and reproducibe research, so I'm really fortunate to work in a position that allows me to continue with these interests, while every now and then still engaging with linguistics.
Despite my training, my German's not great, my Swiss German even worse.
Throughout the semester I'll be around to help out with the tech side of things. Depending on the interests of the class, I might also be able to introduce you all to some basic techniques for analysis of digital text---a field sometimes known as corpus linguistics.
I'm on Twitter as @interro_gator
Got back in the classroom today to try out the new digital history syllabus at @digihistlab @UZH_en, where all our course materials, assignments and communication is done via @gitlab. Putting two things under one hat! @TransitLives
